Back in Costa Rica. Back on Tico Time

After two years of absence from Costa Rica, I finally made my way back.

This time with a group called Travel For Teens. I have been working for them since I was 17 years old, but, typically, I am sent away to France (not a real surprise here).

Anyway, I will be in Costa Rica with 12 students and my new favorite vet, Sally, who has already performed surgery twice on my little Kitten-baby-dummy, Nala. I have been stuck in San Jose for two days, as I'm waiting for my group to land. Today is the day that I start the journey to Puerto Viejo.

I. could. not. be. more. excited.

Two years ago, I felt like I had missed out by never staying in San Jose. It is the capital of Costa Rica. It has the international airport. It should be interesting right?
Well, I've been proven wrong. Turns out, I am not always right. San Jose is boring, dirty, and there is no green space, no wildlife.
If you are looking to bump into a thousand people a day, you'll love it here though.

Yesterday, I spent my time walking up and down streets in the hope to find something intriguing. I found a little hole in wall bakery where I had my lunch for 2$ and their version of Chinatown (which is composed of warehouses full of red lanterns and shoes).

After being disappointed for an hour, I decided I might as well return to the hotel, because at least there is a TV there. So, I went back to hotel, and turned on the TV while preparing for my trip.
The trip being ready, I went to the pool and started reading a little bit.
OF COURSE THERE NEEDS TO BE CONSTRUCTION AT ALL HOURS OF THE DAY.
Try relaxing by the pool side they said...

So, instead of howler monkeys, or even just passing cars, for the last two days I have been listening to the harmonious sound of a jackhammer drilling into something. No one truly knows what, not even the receptionist.
That in itself is enough to turn a sane person, insane.

Now, I am waiting at the hotel, listening to the Spanish version of "Pirates of Caribbean" and typing my first blog post in a long time, watching time slowly passing by.

Can't wait to get back on the road and arrive in the jungle.
